Sustainably avoiding residual dirt with perfect container cleaning:
A Cleanly Shining Example
In the Zumtobel Group’s biggest lamp factory in Dornbirn, Austria, not only the parts are cleaned but the transport containers as well. Installation of a BUPI CLEANER® POWERTEC KLT cleaning system for small load carriers improved cleaning results and workplace conditions as well as process stability and substantially reduced power and water consumption.
In its largest production facility at its corporate headquarters in Dornbirn, Austria, the Zumtobel Group manufactures Zumtobel und Thorn office and project lamps. For all products of these brands, the global player in the lighting industry offers a five-year warranty. This calls for an elevated product quality, for which the uncompromised cleanness of all components required in the production process is a vital prerequisite. This is why Zumtobel has been cleaning not only the parts but also the transport containers to prevent the parts from picking up dirt during transport.
For many years, a heavy-duty dishwasher and a cleaning station for removing persistent, usually oily residues by hand had been enough to meet requirements. Over the years, however, the number of transport containers circulating throughout the facility has grown to about 300 containers of all 18 types per shift. In view of this, cycle times had increasingly become an issue due to the necessity for manual pre-cleaning that was impossible to forecast.
Sustainable Container Cleaning
The solution was brought about by a compact BUPI CLEANER® POWERTEC KLT two-tank cleaning system specifically specifically designed to clean small load carriers (Kleinladungsträger; KLT). Within the space-saving system, the containers rotate horizontally in a cleaning cage during the cleaning process. They are sprayed on from three sides with a hot cleaning agent at high pressure and flow rates, then rinsed and finally blow-dried with hot air.
The system significantly accelerated and eased container cleaning and completely eliminated the need for manual pre-cleaning. Equipped with Grundfos pumps rated IE3 for energy efficiency, the system lowered power consumption and reduced water consumption by 89 %. Thanks to ergonomic operation using a Siemens PLC and vapour extraction, workplace quality was improved while labour requirement for container cleaning was reduced by 60 %.
