Following machining, the heavy and geometrically complex components, featuring numerous drilled passages and blind holes, are cleaned in a BUPI CLEANER\u00ae POWERTEC BASIC single-chamber aqueous cleaning system equipped with an integrated high-pressure lance module. Automating the previously manual cleaning process reduced cleaning time by 80\u201390% while significantly improving air quality in the production area.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Alongside injection molding, <strong>thermoplastic extrusion<\/strong> is one of the most important manufacturing processes for producing technical plastic components. Extruded plastic pipes and profiles are found everywhere. The raw material is processed in extruders, where powdered feedstock is compacted in a controlled manner by extruder screws until it reaches a plastic state before being forced through a shaping die.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Everything for Extrusion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>GPN GmbH (Global Production Network) is one of the leading manufacturers of machinery and tooling for plastic profile extrusion, as well as equipment for downstream extrusion processes. Founded in 1977 under the name <em>Uniplast<\/em>, the company employs around 350 people across locations in Austria and the Czech Republic. With more than 40 years of experience, GPN specializes in the precision machining of extrusion tools and components, particularly for the window manufacturing industry.<\/p>\n<p>As a dedicated manufacturing company, GPN is part of a larger extrusion group capable of providing complete solutions\u2014from greenfield projects to fully extruded finished products. At its Nu\u00dfbach facility, which opened in 1984, GPN develops and manufactures extrusion tooling and components for customers both within and outside the group.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Increasing Cleanliness Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2794 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bupicleaner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/MAP_GPN_00-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"MAP_GPN_00\" width=\"345\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bupicleaner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/MAP_GPN_00-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.bupicleaner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/MAP_GPN_00-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bupicleaner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/MAP_GPN_00-1536x864.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 345px) 100vw, 345px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The components are generally large, highly complex assemblies that must withstand extremely high operating pressures. &#8220;They are therefore manufactured from high-strength alloys, often stainless steel,&#8221; explains Thomas Grabner, Head of Tool Manufacturing at GPN GmbH. &#8220;They undergo virtually every type of machining operation.&#8221; Turning, milling, deep-hole drilling, grinding, and polishing are carried out with a high degree of automation on modern CNC-controlled machines, ensuring outstanding precision and cost-effective production.<\/p>\n<p>After machining, every component must be completely free of chips and metalworking fluids. &#8220;Any contamination negatively affects the subsequent performance of the extruders,&#8221; says Martin Lachberger, Team Leader of GPN&#8217;s contract manufacturing division, AllEx (All Extrusion). &#8220;In addition, our customers often require the parts to be completely free of cleaning agent residues and to remain visually unchanged during extended storage periods.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>A New Approach to Parts Cleaning<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2804 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.bupicleaner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GPN_Thomas_Grabner-1-823x1024.jpg\" alt=\"GPN_Thomas_Grabner\" width=\"120\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bupicleaner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GPN_Thomas_Grabner-1-823x1024.jpg 823w, https:\/\/www.bupicleaner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GPN_Thomas_Grabner-1-1543x1920.jpg 1543w, https:\/\/www.bupicleaner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GPN_Thomas_Grabner-1-768x956.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bupicleaner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GPN_Thomas_Grabner-1-1234x1536.jpg 1234w, https:\/\/www.bupicleaner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GPN_Thomas_Grabner-1-1646x2048.jpg 1646w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 120px) 100vw, 120px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Until recently, all components at GPN were cleaned manually using a cleaning paste. &#8220;Not only was this an unpleasant job that required operators to wear protective masks and safety goggles, but it also negatively affected the air quality throughout the production hall,&#8221; recalls Thomas Grabner.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, GPN&#8217;s production specialists decided to replace the manual cleaning process with a modern automated solution. The cleaning process uses fixed spray nozzles while the workpieces rotate inside a mesh basket. Through glove ports, an inspection window, and LED chamber lighting, operators can manually clean difficult-to-access deep holes using heated cleaning media. A compressed-air gun is also provided for blowing out blind holes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Faster Cleaning, Superior Results<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since the primary contaminant is metalworking fluid, the main cleaning process is performed at a relatively low temperature of approximately <strong>35\u00b0C<\/strong>. One significant advantage is the short cooling time before the components are inspected on a coordinate measuring machine (CMM).<\/p>\n<p>Another important contributor to the consistently high cleaning quality is the <strong>WIGOL<\/strong> process chemistry. Specially formulated for low-temperature cleaning, it minimizes foam formation while also providing light corrosion protection.
